Sump Pump Monitor (Local)
Auto dry-run protection that cuts power before burnout. Local only, no cloud.
Platform: PFA01
The PumpFuse PFA01 Sump Pump Monitor is a smart inline power monitor that learns your pump automatically and cuts power on a dry run or blockage before your motor burns out. It runs entirely on your local network — no account, no subscription, no server that can be shut down.
Two sump options, same maker. This is the compact, local-only PFA01 monitor with an internal relay that can cut power.
For a plug-in Wi-Fi monitor with cloud history and analytics, see the
PF03 (indoor) /
PF03B (outdoor).
What it does
- Zero-config protection — learns your pump automatically. No thresholds to set. It watches every pump cycle, builds a power baseline in about five cycles, and arms itself. On a dry run (abnormally low power) it opens the relay and kills the circuit before your motor burns out — same for blockages that spike power above the learned range. Plug it in and forget about it.
- Smart monitoring. Tracks every pump cycle and alerts on excessive runtime, rapid cycling, inactivity, or power anomalies. Five distinct alert types cover the failure modes that actually destroy sump pumps: low-power dry runs, high-power blockages, motors that won't shut off, rapid on-off cycling, and pumps that haven't run when they should have. A 24-hour activity chart shows when and how long each cycle ran.
- No cloud, no subscription. Works entirely on your local network — your data stays home. No account to create, no monthly fee, and no server that can be sunset. If your internet goes down, the monitor keeps protecting your pump and logs every event.
- Home Assistant ready. 26 auto-discovered entities via MQTT — power readings, pump state, relay control, alert sensors, protection mode, and more. Build dashboards, write automations, or query the device with an AI assistant through MCP. A full REST API is included; add push notifications with the HA Companion app (automation template in the docs).
- Battery backup compatible. Auto-learns the charger baseline power — no special configuration. A bimodal learning algorithm separates a battery backup charger's constant draw from the pump's intermittent cycles.
- Easy setup. Plug the pump into the device, open the PumpFuse app, tap Add Device, hold the button for Bluetooth pairing, pick your Wi-Fi network, and you're done. Full protection active within a few cycles.
How it works
The monitor measures real-time power at one sample per second to learn normal operation, then detects Dry Runs, Blockages, Excessive Runtime, Rapid Cycling, and Missed Cycles. Its internal relay can cut power to prevent motor burnout. Everything runs locally with no monthly fees, no cloud dependencies, and no accounts; advanced users get Home Assistant MQTT integration and a REST API. The app shows a 24-hour timeline, live vitals, and alert history.

Frequently asked questions
Does it cut power, or just alert?
Both. It alerts on five failure modes and its internal 10A relay can physically cut power on a dry run or blockage to prevent motor burnout.
Do I need a cloud account or subscription?
No. It works entirely on your local network — no account, no monthly fee, and it keeps protecting your pump even if the internet is down. The free app is used for Wi-Fi setup.
Does it work with a battery backup pump?
Yes. Its bimodal learning separates a battery backup charger's constant draw from the pump's intermittent cycles automatically — no special configuration.
How is this different from the PF03?
The PF03 is a plug-in Wi-Fi monitor with cloud history and analytics. This PFA01 monitor is compact, local-only, includes a power-cutting relay, and offers deep Home Assistant / REST / MCP integration.
